This
composition is structured on a three-by-three
bol pattern, meaning that each bol
is repeated three times in succession. The entire composition consists of ten bols in total. This specific
rhythmic form is known as a “Gat.”
I
had the privilege of learning this Gat
directly from my revered father and guru, the late Keshab Changkakati. It was described to me as a Gat of exceptionally high caliber within
the Farukhabad Gharana tradition.
This Gat continues to be transmitted
through the classical guru–shishya
parampara (teacher–disciple lineage), reflecting the deep continuity of
traditional pedagogy in Hindustani percussion practice.
